The new AMSA rules about the scale testing that must be completed before and annually thereafter, so that the scale can be used to determine the container’s VGM is a very hard achievement for some types of scales, that are used to weigh an export sea container.
Any existing scale that you have can be tested to the complex set of tests as stipulated by the Federal Government Department called National Measurement Institute (NMI) for that type/capacity scale. The scale does not have to be a Trade Approved scale, but it must pass these complex set of tests before you can use that scale to determine the Verified Gross Mass (VGM) for any container that is going onto a vessel that is on the sea. It is important that certified test masses (known as Regulation 13 test masses) are used for the testing of the scale. You can ask for a copy of the Regulation 13 certificate that covers each of the test masses that will be used in the testing for your records.
Certain scales installed onto Forklifts and Reach Stackers are either struggling to meet or actually failing the NMI testing standards for that type/capacity scale.
Working with some major distributors of the large capacity Forklifts and Reach Stackers, Instant Weighing and their scale product called COMPULOAD are meeting these challenges for their customers to have scales on such equipment that can be legally be used to determine the VGM weight of an export sea container.
The COMPULOAD 6000 digital display also allows the sea container ID number to be recorded against the VGM weight including date and time plus other data information. All of this can be printed out via the onboard COMPULOAD 4070 printer on downloaded . More importantly, this same data can be electronically transmitted straight to the office computer via either 3G, 4G or satellite, thus allowing the office to be aware of each sea container movement and the relevant data and VGM weight. This is an important information management tool.
